Seeking psychological support is a big step — emotionally, practically, and financially. At For You Psychology, we aim to be as transparent and respectful as possible about fees and rebate options, so you can make informed decisions without pressure or confusion.
We are not a bulk-billing practice. This means there will always be an out-of-pocket cost for appointments. However, many clients are able to reduce the overall cost through Medicare or private health rebates.
Session Fees
This fee reflects:
If you are interested in assessment services (e.g. ADHD, Autism, cognitive or learning assessments), fees are discussed individually, as they vary depending on the type and scope of assessment. A clear written quote can be provided before you decide to proceed.
Medicare Rebates (Better Access)
You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate if you have a valid referral under the Australian Government’s Better Access initiative. Under this scheme, eligible people can receive a Medicare rebate for a set number of individual psychology sessions per calendar year, when referred by a GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician with a Mental Health Treatment Plan or equivalent referral.
In practical terms, this usually involves:
Booking an appointment with your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician
Discuss your mental health concerns. If appropriate, they may prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral to For You Psychology.
Bringing your referral and plan to your first session
We will record the referral details so you can claim Medicare rebates.
Claiming your rebate
You pay the full session fee ($250) at the time of your appointment. We can assist you in lodging your claim with Medicare, or you can claim it yourself using your Medicare online account or app. Medicare then reimburses the rebate directly to your nominated bank account.
Medicare rebates do not cover the full fee, but they do reduce your out-of-pocket cost per session. The exact rebate amount can change over time; your GP or the Medicare website can provide the most current figures.
Private Health Insurance
If you have extras cover with psychology included, you may be able to claim a rebate through your private health fund.
Please contact your insurer directly to confirm your level of cover.
NDIS and Other Funding
Some clients may be able to use:
If you believe one of these applies to you or your child, we are happy to discuss what might be possible and what documentation is required.
Why Fees Are Structured This Way
Psychology fees reflect more than the 50 minutes in the room. They also incorporate:
Our focus is on providing high-quality, neuroaffirming, evidence-based care, with careful attention to your unique needs and goals. Fees are structured to allow sessions to be thoughtful, unhurried, and clinically robust.
